LaDawn Talbott: Plastic Surgeon, Fitness Competitor, and Fit Mom & Grandma

“I’ve always enjoyed being fit and working out, but I never really made it a priority,” says LaDawn Talbott, a Board-certified Reno plastic surgeon and fitness enthusiast. “I’ve always made the excuse of not having enough time.”

But gone are the days of making excuses. These days LaDawn not only makes time to work out, she’s committed to staying fit and living healthier – a commitment that led her to joining various fitness competitions in Nevada this year. How exactly did the transformation from fitness enthusiast to fitness competitor happen?

Inspiration and Motivation
Like all great things, LaDawn’s transformation started with a spark of inspiration. That inspiration, LaDawn says, was one of her patients. This patient was Vickie Francovich, an amazing 60-year-old mother and businesswoman, who also happened to be a strong advocate of fitness and wellness. “I saw her and I said to myself, ‘When I’m 60, this is what I want to be like’”, says LaDawn. “I want to be able to look back at my life and feel like I did the best I could with my health.”

Vickie, however, is not the only person LaDawn draws inspiration from. The other person is none other than her daughter Celeste. When Celeste noticed LaDawn going to the gym more often than usual and saw the results, she decided she wanted to do it, too. Pretty soon, LaDawn and her daughter were working out together. “We motivate each other, and we look forward to seeing each other and spending time together.”

Those workout sessions led them to compete at the 2015 NPC Governor’s Cup in March 2015 where LaDawn rounded out the Top 5 in the Masters Bikini Class. LaDawn credits her daughter for rousing the fitness competitor in her. “Celeste was actually the one who inspired me to do the competition,” she says. “She wanted to do the competition, so we did it together, and it was so much fun; it was a bonding experience.”

Keep Pushing, Keep Going
It seems that once you’ve been bitten by the fitness bug, you can’t stop. That’s certainly what happened to LaDawn and Celeste, who are now training for the NPC Tahoe Show (Bikini Class). The Tahoe Show, which is the premier bodybuilding contest in California and Nevada, takes place on August 22, 2015.

Training Buddies: LaDawn and daughter Celeste

“Usually, for a competition, it’s a 12-week prep,” LaDawn explains. “But since we did the Gov Cup in March and we’re already in shape, we’re doing an eight-week prep instead.”

Their preparation period may be shorter, but it’s just as grueling and intense. The prep includes a diet that is tailored to their physique and metabolism. “The diet consists of eating every three hours; that’s probably the hardest part, eating healthy food,” says LaDawn. “Typically, we eat six meals a day and we drink a lot of water, usually a gallon.”

The fitness plans are also tailored to their needs. LaDawn explains that the biggest problem areas for women are the lower bodies, because that’s where they tend to hold the weight. “Celeste and I had to do this Booty Boot Camp, and all it is, is an hour of lower-body exercises,” says LaDawn. “We do that twice a week, and it’s pretty intense.” The rest of the week, she and her daughter do exercises for the arms, back, and abdomen.

LaDawn looks to her trainers Gwen Sedler and Jennifer Bosco of Perfect Ten Athletics for guidance. They ensure she’s ready for the stage by managing her diet and fitness regimen, and teaching her professional posing techniques.

Now the countdown to the Tahoe Show begins! LaDawn’s journey, however, is not just about the physical aspect. It’s about commitment and motivation, about setting goals and achieving them. More importantly, it’s about staying fit and living healthy.
