Mommy Makeover: The Big Questions

Posted April 14, 2015 in Practice News

Reclaim your pre-baby physique with the mommy makeover in Reno
You’ve survived pregnancy, labor, and nursing; you’ve also somehow figured out how to operate without sleep. Now you ask yourself, “How on earth will I get my pre-pregnancy body back?”

In our Mommy Makeover Mania in Reno post, we covered the basics: The Mommy Makeover, which is offered at Talbott Plastic Surgery Center, is really three procedures combined into one surgical session. It incorporates breast augmentation or breast lift, a tummy tuck, and liposuction. This all-in-one plastic surgery procedure is tailor-made for mothers who wish to reclaim their pre-baby contouring and also reverse some of the physical changes brought about by bearing, birthing, and nursing their children.

We’ve got the basics down, but some questions still linger: When is the right time to do it? What can I expect in terms of recovery? What should I tell my children? Ask no more. We provide the answers to some of the most common questions about the Mommy Makeover.

  • When Is The Right Time?

After childbirth, there is no magic number of months you must wait to have the procedure. There are, however, a couple of strong recommendations we’ll share with you. First, and rather obviously, make sure you’re done having children. The last thing you want to do is undergo and pay for the procedure, recover physically, regain a healthy and fitter look, and then undo it all with a subsequent pregnancy.

The other factor to consider time-wise is weight stabilization. In order to obtain optimal results from your makeover, you should have lost as much of your pregnancy weight as is naturally possible. Ideally, your weight will be stable with insignificant fluctuation. Also, you should have finished breastfeeding for a few months so your breasts return to a natural size. All these will truly help in predicting the final outcome of the procedure.

  • How Long Will The Procedure Take and How Long to Recover?

The surgery typically takes 4 to 5 hours, with another hour in the recovery room prior to heading home. The best reason to combine your breast enhancement, liposuction, and tummy tuck is minimizing surgery, anesthesia, and recovery time. And since we’re talking about moms, the sooner you can return to all of your juggled jobs, the better. Expect two to three weeks of careful recovery before you can begin to return to normal activity levels. It will be four to seven weeks before you can do any lifting or strenuous work.

  • My Children Are Still Young. Should I Consider the Procedure Now?

We think so! While life seems incredibly busy now, wait until you’re faced with coordinating sports, homework, and other after-school activities. Young children do need more direct attention from mom, but often require less running around. Young kids also tend to understand when mom needs to rest and recover, and actually like to help out during this period! The most compelling reason to have your makeover now, however, is that you’ll heal faster while you’re younger and you get to enjoy the benefits of the makeover for much longer.
